For the last ten years or so I’ve been frustrated on a regular basis by the method required to select which audio input I want to record from. Ie. double-click on the volume icon to open the Play Control -> Select “Properties” from the “Options Menu” -> choose “Recording” and click “OK” to open the Recording Control.
Here’s how to create an icon which opens the Recording Control straight away.
Now you can drag your new shortcut to your Start menu or Quick Launch toolbar or wherever.
Also, when you’ve got either the Play Control or Recording Control open and selected, pressing CTRL+S switches between normal and compact views.

This has bothered me for years. Thanks for the tip! I didn’t know about the compact view, either. Nice.

Glad it was useful..(I’m just annoyed I didn’t find out about this sooner!)

Neat indeed! :) Got sick of this little thing some time back. Now we need to figure out how to make a systray icon about it, but that’s a different story. ;)
