I was in Tokyo during Golden Week, so took the opportunity to try and capture some of the ambience of Akihabara while I was there.
Below are a few snippets of audio (in 256kbps MP3 format), also you can click the images for larger versions.
Heading North along Chuo Dori, on the left side of the street. There’s a little bit of wind noise in parts of the recording but it’s not too bad.

An audio tour of the Don Quixote building: I wandered around each floor before taking the escalator up to the next level. The first few floors are kind of like a department store, above those are video games and other assorted amusements. The eighth floor has a cafe and is also home to idol-collective AKB48.

Amidst the crowds in Akihabara’s crisscrossing side streets. Despite being a fairly small area there’s a lot of shops…even after randomly browsing around for a few hours it seemed like I’d barely scratched the surface.

Inside an amusement arcade. I think this recording is from Club Sega - but to be honest some of my memories of the time I spent in Akihabara have sort of blurred together…there was almost too much sensory input to assimilate.
